Americans self-medicated on election night by ordering a whopping 86 more percent booze than usual, according to liquor delivery service Drizly.com. Interestingly, wine (especially Sauvignon Blanc) accounted for 48 percent of the orders; as the night went on, vodka and whiskey became the most popular selections. Meanwhile, Google saw a 220 percent spike in searches for “election drinking game.” Both Postmates and Grubhub also report that delivery orders began to spike as the polls were closing last Tuesday. A Postmates spokesperson tells Eater that the demand for alcohol was “through the roof.” As for food, people gravitated toward Mexican, Thai and Indian cuisine. Sounds like Wednesday morning was pretty rough on a lot of folks’ stomachs.
